To a Special Programme of Welsh Culture and Music at

           “ YSTRADGWYN HERITAGE and WELSH TRIPLE HARP CENTRE”

           TAL-Y-LLYN, MEIRIONNYDD

This is a personalised programme of Talks for Visitors found no where else in Wales!  It dips into the vast treasury of Welsh clture and traditions. The Talks focus on our local area and are taylored for visitors to Wales. We hope you enjoy them. Their purpose is to be entertaining as well as informative, both to the frequent visitor and the novice – who will surely return for more! The programme includes many and varies aspects of Welsh culture from the history of local castles and princes ........to famous personalities.....craftsmen and adventureurs..... to fairy folk and, of course, focusing the unique music of folk songs and the Welsh Triple Harp. Each item on the programme will be a souvenir to treasure. Marian extends a very warm CROESO! to the Talks and looks forward to seeing you at

THE PROGRAMME

 

 

 

 

A   “The Story of Tal-y-llyn”. A brief history of this former little country chapel, Ystradgwyn, and the nearby Victorian “Idris Estate”. You will hear the stunning story of its “Pop King”! You may care to take a walk there afterwards.

 

B   “Fairy Tales of Cader Idris”. Once upon a time there lived a Giant called Idris..... In a lonely farmhouse nearby there lived......A mysterious white cow appeared....... They will come to life. Don’t miss!

 

C   “The lost Princess of Wales”, Gwenllian, hear her tragic story and connection with local Castell-y-bere and its turbuent history. You will want to visit that castle!

 

D   “The Jones Girls of Tal-y-llyn”. There were two –one was involved in a famous battle - and the other with the Welsh Bible. True heroines. These were remarkable 19th century local women worth a salute!

 

E   “The Welsh in Patagonia”. A story of emigration, endurance and fortitude, and eventual triumph for the 165 who set sail in 1865. Hats off! They’ve kept their language and culture alive and thriving  to this day. How did they do it?

 

F   “The Welsh Costume and three famous ladies in three different centuries who wore it with pride  and purpose. You’ll love these ladies! So different. Such great characters!

 

G   “Woodcraft”. A discussion and display of these beautiful creations, unique and practical for you to handle and enjoy. They are the life work of one country craftsman, the  inheriter of a great family tradition.

 

H “ Welsh Folk Songs”. An anonymous treasure trove of songs sung from the heart. Learn about the diligent collectors who helped preserve them and set up the Welsh Folk Song Society. Enjoy the music!

The Heritage Centre is half way between Machynlleth and Dolgellau. From either take the A487 to its juntion with the B4405. The Centre is 300 yds. down the B4405, close to

Dôl  Einion campsite.
